Sandburg Volleyball Takes 5-Set Thriller at Highland

FREEPORT — Playing its first Arrowhead Conference road match, the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team came away with a wild 25-16, 15-25, 25-18, 28-30, 18-16 five-set victory at Highland on Tuesday night. 

The Chargers (5-5 overall, 1-1 Arrowhead) were led by freshman Lauren Erke (Quincy, Ill./Quincy), who had a team- and season-high 17 kills on a .368 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Mo./Reeds Spring) had 13 kills, and Gracie Rademaker (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) and Jadyn Swan (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) each added 11 kills. Swan also had two of Sandburg’s six aces, and she and Reeves-Eakins each had five blocks.

Setter Carmyn Baldwin (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) had 48 assists, just two off her career high.

Libero Mackenzie Springsteen (Sperry, Iowa/Mediapolis) picked up 21 digs. Sandburg also had double-digit dig efforts from Rademacker (15), Reeves-Eakins (14), Baldwin (13) and freshman Jasmin McDaniel (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) (12).
